KORNA KORDOVA

Trained dance in her native São Paulo (Brazil), where she also participated  in Grupo Tapa drama theatre workshops. In 1999 she obtained a Bachelors degree in Journalism from Faculdade de Comunicação Social Cásper Líbero ( São Paulo, BR). Worked in Brazil and in Holland before joining SDT in 2005. Performed works by Suzana Gomes, Suzana Yamauchi, Jacek Łumiński, Hilke Diemer, Sylwia Hefczyńska – Lewandowska and Mihai Mihalcea, among others. Has also cooperated with Kokoro Dance in Canada and with BalletMet in the United States. In 2006 she created the solo pieces “Mobile Variations” and “Night” for music composed by Krzysztof Wołek ( PL/USA ) and Allison Ogden ( USA ) under the commission of the V Festival of  New Music ( PL ). As a further development of these works, she created the solo piece “Karolina”, which has been performed during the International Dance Festival in Bytom, in the Schindler’s Factory in Krakow and within the project “ Entrée” at Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów. Her experience as a dance teacher includes the Little Dance Conference in Bytom and the International Dance Festival in Lublin. She is a regular teacher in SDT workshops, open classes and in the Studio of Physical Theatre, for which she has created the works “Elektrokosmos” ( 2008 ) and “Cranes” ( 2009 ) in collaboration with actress Ewa Zawada.

SYLWIA HEFCZYŃSKA – LEWANDOWSKA

Sylwia Hefczyńska – Lewandowska is a graduate of the Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław. As a dancer of the Silesian Dance Theatre in Bytom since 1995, she has danced in all of the first-night performances by the Theatre ever since, including the productions choreographed by the artistic director, Jacek Łumiński, and those created for the dancers by guest artists (Wendell Beavers, Henrietta Horn, Frank Handeler, Diane Elshout, Jay Hirabayashi and Barbara Bouqet). She also participated in the re-making of the performance by Pola Nireńska entitled „Pieśń żałobna” (“The Lament”) under the directorship of Rima Feber in Washington, and, in her capacity as a dancer and assistant choreographer, in foreign productions, cooperating with the Kokoro Dance Company (Canada) and the Ballet Met (Columbus-the USA). In 2000 she was awarded the title of the professional dancer by the Polish Artists’ Association, a distinction which is recognized by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. For fifteen years she has been taking part in theatrical festivals, both in Poland and abroad, such as the Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival in Bytom, the International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz, the International Meetings of Dance Theatres in Lublin, the Theatre Festival in Avignon, the INTERFACE Festival in Kolkata, the Dance Festivals in Delhi and in Guangdong, in the Chinese province of Kanton, and many more. Her pedagogical achievements include cooperating with the Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław, the State Ballet School in Bytom, the Dance Department in Swarthmore College (the USA), organizing classes and seminars as part of the New Series of Educational Workshops for Dance Teachers and Artistic Leaders, and the Higher School of Performance Arts in Bytom. In 2005 she made her debut as a choreographer and, to date, has created three performances of her own for the purposes of the Silesian Dance Theatre's Choreography Laboratory, and a few more for the Festival of Sophisticated Art. She has been a teacher of the Polish Techniques of Contemporary Dance in the Dance Theatre Department of the  Ludwik Solski Academy of Theatre in Cracow. In 2007 she received the Mayor of Bytom Award for her activities in the field of culture, and a year later she obtained her PhD degree in Theatre Arts.
